SYNESTHESIA.

Synesthesia is a neuro condition where there is a mixing of your five senses. Although it is rare to find synesthetes (a person with synesthesia) many people are born with mild cases. Many examples of synesthesia are used in modern speech such as “sharp cheddar” and “loud shirt”. Synesthetes can often hear colours and/or see sounds. Those who live with their synesthesia for a long period of time grow accustomed to it and wouldn’t want to be without it. Those that obtain synesthesia for a short period of time (i.e. concussion or after a drug dose) often feel very uncomfortable because of the mixing of the senses. In the anime CANAAN, on of our main characters, Canaan (hence the anime’s title) has the ability of synesthesia. She sees numbers and letters in different colours. This form of synesthesia is called color-graphemic synesthesia. She also mentions that people have different colours to reflect their emotions (like a mood ring). This ability becomes very handy when she’s going against the bad guys (:

Cross Game

ayeeeeee long time no post. I’ve been really busy with a shit load of things, but I did of course have enough time to satisfy my anime addiction (: I started Cross Game awhile back when I was watching Canaan and now I’m pretty far into it. Cross game is a sport anime (baseball) but it’s also slice of life. It’s on going and currently has 33 episodes. I’ve honestly always hated baseball, but now whenever Kou steps up to the mound to pitch I’m on the edge of my chair counting how many batters he gets out! I found out about this anime after reading a magazine that had a review in it. The author of the manga is none other than Mitsuru Adachi who is well known for creating the manga series Touch. At first glance the anime isn’t very attractive as the artwork is very different and the story begins by following grade five students. But the more you watch it, the more a tragic story unfolds and you just get completely sucked in. (LIKE A BLACK HOLE ^^) Into the middle of the series it becomes more of a romantic comedy. The character development in the series is absolutely fantastic which makes you feel really close to the characters. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

Midori No Hibi review

Yesterday I finished watching Midori no Hibi (Midori Days). It’s a shoujo anime that involves 2 main characters, Seiji Sawamura and Midori Kasugano. This is a slice of life anime so it takes place in and around town. Midori has a huge crush on Seiji, yet she can’t bring herself to say so. The next day they wake up and BAM! She’s now his right hand…. awkward? How does this happen?! The mystery is left unsolved. Over time they get used to each other and Midori admits she sooo incredibly in LOVE with Seiji. I don’t understand why Seiji disregards the fact but everytime Midori confesses he just shrugs it off. The artwork wasn’t anything special, it was okay. Midori often looks like a cute puppet when she wears her dresses (: I was kinda thrown off by the way Kouta was drawn. He looked way too young to be in highschool. The combination of his ‘puppy dog’ face and school uniform caused some incongruence for me. Throughout the anime he was just too girly and could never say what he WANTS. Even still, this anime is hilarious. I’m sure many others who have watched it can say it deserves a 10/10 for most laughs. I’d definitely recommend it to someone who likes shoujo animes with a twist.

Lately I’ve been writing music with some friends and my guitar! It’s lots of fun and we’re busy preparing for a show.
I started watching Midori no Hibi after reading Yoko-chan’s review on it. Makes me laugh everyday~
I’m in the middle of Cross Game which is a really cute slice of life/sport anime
My brother has been bugging me to buy the pc game Aion and I’ve been having some fun with that
other than that it’s been tests, homework, projects……

CANAAN review

The anime opens at a festival in Shanghai. A photographer named Maria is in awe as she takes numerous pictures and joins in the festivities. Soon after mysterious deaths occur and Maria bumps into her long lost friend Canaan. Canaan was a very authentic anime in many different ways. Even though it had the ‘girls with guns’ element like Gunslinger Girl and many other animes, I found originality in many other elements. One of these were the Synesthesia abilities Canaan possessed. Before this anime I had never heard of ‘hearing with colour’. Now I think it’s absolutely facisnating. Those with Synesthesia have a completely different perception of the world. Anyways, back to the anime. The plot was always full of action. It seemed like everytime i thought they were safe, someone ended up dying within the next 30 seconds. Was this a bad thing? A good thing? uhh.. I don’t really know. At the end of the anime there was major losses in important characters, and some characters remained alive even though i believed they were dead. Sometimes it was easy to predict what would happen but I could only guess 5 minutes ahead of the storyline. The backstory for some characters were hard to figure out (i.e. Maria’s relationship with her father). This was probably because those details were covered in the game and left vague in the anime. But after reading up on it I understood the chacaters more. Definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a change of pace. It’s only 13 episodes and it might even cause you to research synesthesia, like me!

I decided to start a new anime called CANAAN. It’s based on a visual novel for Wii created by Type-Moon called 428: Fūsasareta Shibuya de. It’s really common to have visual novels turn into an anime. This 13 episode series is full of action with some politics. It centres around of course, a girl named Canaan. She was the sole survivor of a war-torn village in the middle east. Canaan has a special ability called Synesthesia. Which she often uses in her conquest for revenge. I’m currently watching episode 10 and it’s getting quite interesting. I’ll write a review when I finish tonight.

Owl City has been one of my favourite artists for years. Owl City is a stage name for Adam Young and his backing band. I always knew Adam would make it big some day. I’ve been watching out for him since his hit on Myspace “Hello Seattle”. Owl City’s music falls under the genre of electric pop as a lot of the music is synthesized. Recently his song ’Fireflies’ has been climbing the charts. I was delighted when i heard it on my favourite radio station. Owl City = Great Music.

Another school week

WOW. Im so tired from the weekend, I almost feel asleep in math class! The parties this weekend were great, i got to see a lot of new people and old friends. By the time everyone left at 11 last night i was about to collapse. Of course i had to help clean up, so i have no idea what time it was when i finally hit the sack. Well that was the end of October and November is here to stay. Lets welcome the fall and another school week ~

It’s halloween today and I actually have a lot to do right now … I’m really lazy though so I’ll clean after. I’m actually having a party at my house tomorrow and it’s from 3-10 so i have to get everything ready. To celebrate halloween I’m going out with some friends to a party tonight. I can’t wait, it’s going to be fun. I thought Halloween would get boring once i got older because the thrill of getting free candy just kind of fades. Little did I know there are more exciting things happening on that night.

Hallowe’en is linked to a Celtic holiday called Samuin. It’s a celebration of ‘summer’s end’ and welcomes the darker part of the year which is typically winter. On this day for some reason the walls between the living world and the dead are much slimmer. This allows spirits to pass through quite easily. In order to ward off the evil spirits everyone dressed in scary costumes to be mistaken for an evil spirit and avoid harm.

Anime North 2010

Me and my friend Tammy are planning costumes for a cosplay convention this May (ANIME NORTH). It’s going to be held in Toronto and it’s a huge event every year. We want to make the costumes ourselves so we plan on starting early. I’ve been brainstorming ideas and I’ll probably chose between D.gray-man’s Lenalee and Code Geass’ C.C. Tam is looking at Yuki from Vampire Knight.
